Bright Lights

Take learning beyond the classroom! Bright Lights provides unique, motivating, hands-on summer learning camps for K-8th grade students.

Bright Lights is a nonprofit organization that has established a long tradition of offering engaging, high-quality summer learning camps for elementary and middle school students.

We believe learning should be FUN. And with almost 100 camps offered each summer, there is something of interest for every student.

Bright Lights is a minds-on, hands-on environment and we encourage your student to be dressed for fun, active play and learning. Movement breaks and recess will be part of the daily routine. With over 100 camps-there is something for everyone! Below are just a couple of the many camps. Check out them all there!

  • Dance Adventure: Explore the World of Dance: Embark on a five-day journey through the exciting world of dance! This camp offers an introduction to a variety of styles, which may include hip hop, ballet, lyrical, improv, acro, tap, jazz and more. Perfect for beginners and young dancers eager to explore, learn and create. Each day is packed with fun, movement and the chance to discover new favorite dance styles!
  • WHAM, BAM, KAPOW: Let’s Make a Graphic Novel: What makes a graphic novel different from other illustrated books? Discover the difference by creating your own graphic novel. Explore how authors and illustrators use pictures and words to create great stories. We’ll learn how to develop dynamic characters, put them in unusual situations and add action to make engaging stories. We’ll end with a “quick pitch” session where campers become the publisher as we learn how books get into print.
  • Learn the Sport of Fencing: Join the Lincoln Fencing Club to immerse yourself in the sport of fencing. In this introductory camp, you’ll learn about this fast and athletic Olympic sport, including the three different weapons used and why fencing is called physical chess. The sport of fencing is fun and exciting and one of the safest sports in the Olympics. All equipment will be provided.
  • International: Broadway Bound: Do you belt show tunes in the car? Do you love to sing and dance? Broadway Bound is a perfect fit for the musical theater enthusiast who wants to be on stage. We’ll learn and rehearse a set of music and showcase what we learned throughout the week with a LIVE performance on Friday! Campers will also have the unique opportunity to collaborate with Japanese exchange students. We can’t wait to see you SHINE in Broadway Bound! No previous experience required, all music provided.
  • It’s All Greek to Me: Olympus Adventures: Can you imagine fighting the many-headed Hydra, stealing the Golden Fleece from a fire-breathing dragon or flying with wings of wax and feathers? If you think you can defeat the Basilisk or the Minotaur, then spend the week on Mt. Olympus exploring the gods and goddesses of Greek myths and legends. Learn about the Trojan War, perform a play, write myths and compete in an Arachne weaving contest. A week-long board-game of By Jove! and standing with Greek Hoplites in an outdoor game called Phalanx are just part of the fun. On Friday we will enjoy a Greek feast, dressing in tunics and sharing the week’s adventure on Mt. Olympus.

Registration is March 1 starting at 8 AM at BrightLights.org!

Business Review

My daughter attended a Bright Lights: Summer Learning Adventures camp and it was great! These camps are engaging and well-organized. The camps are themed for a week (she picked "Are You Fancy Like Nancy?"), her leader was an LPS chemistry teacher and every day was something new and fun.

She came home with handmade soaps (which she won't allow us to use) and lipgloss, a scrap book of her week and stories about her day. The kids get a snack half way through the afternoon or morning and a recess break.

At the end of the week, parents are invited to attend your child's camp for the last 45 minutes and get an idea of what they've been doing all week. We attended a tea party and got to dress up with our kids.

Our only problem is picking which camp she'll go to this year. There are too many good ones to choose from!
