Celebrate Lincoln's Book Stores-Independent Bookstore Day is April 27

By Mary Monahan January 12, 2023

Are you a reader? Do you know a child who loves books? Like to support local businesses? Before you click "add to cart" consider our local bookstores. Why?

  • Choosing a locally-owned business generates much more economic benefit for our community.
  • Books at bookstores are chosen by people, not algorithms.
  • By shopping local, you help the environment by reducing your carbon footprint.

There are two Independent Book Store events in Lincoln this week:

And don't forget about Lincoln and Seward's Bookstore Crawl!

Pick up your card at any location and mark them off as you go. Each store has a different deal! April 27th is the last day to turn in your completed card.

See below for participating stores:

  • Chapters Books & Gifts
  • A Novel Idea Bookstore
  • Francie & Finch Bookshop
  • Badgers Bookshop
  • Elleinad Books
  • Sower Books

Elleinad Books is a cozy children's bookstore that opened in early September 2022 to rave reviews! It is a place for both children and parents to enjoy the adventures found between the covers of books.

Francie & Finch has great customer service. Last yeaw, I emailed asking for two books for my daughters, they ordered them and wrapped them for me! All I had to do was pick them up. The cost difference between Amazon and Francie & Finch? A little over $1. Will Amazon miss the money from my purchase? No. But these purchases can mean the world to a small business.

A Novel Idea is an absolutely great pre-owned bookstore. They also have felines who hang out in the shop and store window and they are worth stopping to see!

Bluestem Books is a used & out of print bookshop with a huge selection and knowledgable staff. If you're a history buff, you'll love this store. There is a sweet little pooch who helps to manage the store as well, named Maribel.

Sowers Books-an inclusive bookstore for all ages and all interests in Lincoln, NE! They accept donations of all pre-loved books (no matter the condition; no matter the genre) -- as a book collector, the owner how hard it can be to let go of one's books.

Comic Book Stores

Trade-A-Tape Comic Center was established in 1975 and is a great resource for comics with over 200,000 back issues in-stock.

Rainbow Comics, Cards and Collectibles-doesn't just sell comics they also carry sports cards, games, Magic the Gathering and more!
